Top 5 Tips for Home PC Backup

At the present, our society is occupying the information time, people also having more and more data, such as business stuff, personal data, etc. So, people are required to sort out data perfectly and keep data intact. People always tend to produce fluky psychology that their devices storing precious data work well and there’s no unexpected error with the data. But one day, it’s a shame that you find data inaccessible/damaged/corrupted due to accidental deletion, virus attack, system crash or other unknown reasons.

Although data recovery software or expert data recovery company can salvage data from many complicated scenarios, they cannot guarantee 100% data restore. Therefore, we’re wise to plan ahead—data backup.

Based on expert opinion, I have summarized several important tips when you do home PC backup.

#1 Back up data regularly.

You’d better back up files once a week, no matter you choose backup software with automatic backup feature or do backup manually. An USB drive with large capacity can be a good option to store a copy. Nevertheless, please do not put all your backup files in one basket. Besides external hard drive, you should also take the use of removable optical media like DVDs.

#2 Off-site location is needed to take a copy of your backup.

What I mean is that take a copy of your backup to another house or your safe deposit box, in case that something bad happens to your house.

#3 Check if backup files work well or not.

Some people never doubt the backup process, while tons of backuped data may turn out to be unreadable or blank. Actually, this is because the backup software failed to burn the disk correctly or because someone’s carelessness, although it supposed to be normal. So, please connect the backup disk to another computer and then try to open a file. Not just check the directory of files, but open a file.

#4 Protect your personal data.

Needless to say that we only back up significant information including family photos/videos, work files and so much more sensitive information. So, you must protect your backup file to avoid information disclosure.

#5 Lable backups.

As the elapse of time, you’ll have many backup disks. If you don’t mark the disks what they are for, what’s the backup date, you have to load them into computer one by one. It’s a real hassle to find what you need in the future.
