Make use of Disk Management to Partition and Format a Hard Disk in Windows

Thanks to Disk Management tool, you can perform it to partition and format a hard disk in Windows easily.

Hard disk is the main storage device in computers to store information. But you have to divide it into different pieces before using. Here, these pieces are called partitions. It appears to be technical to partition and format a hard disk, but actually not with Microsoft basic, built-in Disk Management.
To Create and Format a Partition
In the first place, you have to make sure unallocated disk space or free space within an extended partition is on the hard disk. If no unallocated disk space available, you can create some by deleting / shrinking an existing partition or by using a third-party partitioning program.
As mentioned above, you will use Disk Management to create and format a partition. Thus, follow below steps to open and run this partition management tool.
Step 1 Click on Start menu button and select Control Panel.
Step 2 Then in Control Panel find Administrative Tools to click, and then double click Computer Management.
Step 3 In the left pane, click Disk Management under Storage. Then an interface including basic information of partitions will present for you. Right click unallocated partition (marked with black bar), select New Simple Volume. In the New Simple Volume Wizard, click Next.
Step 4 Type size of the partition based on your needs or accept default size, then click Next.
Step 5 Accept the default drive letter or choose another drive letter to identify the partition, and then click Next. Here, you have already created a partition.
Step 6 In the Format Partition dialog box, do one of the following:
  • Click Do not format this volume, and then click Next, if you don’t want to format the volume right now.
  • Click Next to format the volume with the default settings.
Review your choices, and then click Finish.
